Originally from Chicago, Brittany Kohnke is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and USA Powerlifting Certified Coach. As a former collegiate softball player, Brittany found physique competitions as a way to “fill the void” once her playing days were over. She idolized the women on Oxygen and Fitness RX magazines and found it to be a great way to "stay in shape" after college. Little did she know years of disordered eating and body dysmorphia would plague her after her stage debut. Gaining nearly 60lbs after her first show sent her into a tailspin. Her early and mid 20's were some dark moments because of this experience.
Eventually, she climbed her way out of the darkness and found a semi-crossfit gym through a friend in her late 20's. She was back in her element of focusing on performance and being surrounded by those who supported that quest. Her gym hosted a weekly “Girls Gone Strong” class with an emphasis on the main barbell movements, specifically in powerlifting. The class taught women how to perform barbell movements and reiterated the phrase “strength is beautiful." It was this experience and coach that would change her and morph her into the coach, athlete, and woman she is today.
Her mission is to help others find strength within training. Achieving fitness goals, no matter what they may be, rest soundly on a foundation of strength; physical, emotional, and mental fortitude. It took her years to sift through the BS bro-Science, fads, and other trends so she’s on a mission to help others navigate this thing we call fitness and health. She aims to give her clients and athletes the tools they need in effectively achieving their goals by using simple, consistent, sustainable, measures in order to achieve lifelong health benefits.
It wasn’t until she found strength training, specifically powerlifting, that her entire outlook on herself and overall health would change. Now, she’s on a mission to spare others from years of headache, by educating and empowering those through strength. From the average gym-goer to the former athlete, Brittany has worked with a variety of clients and ensures to tailor to each person’s needs. No cookie cutter workouts, no meal plans, just individualized support to help others achieve THEIR goals.
Brittany trains out of Fitness 1 on 35th Ave 5 days a week and is available for individual, group, online/remote, and powerlifting meet prep services.
